Hi Rufus and thanks for the feedbacks. it's help me alot !
    • 1. Webmail / credentials.php fixed and pushed. That was a leftover from cleaning up the repo: I deleted the scriptIM2 directory but missed the include in webmail.php. Good catch.
    • 2. BrowserPlugins , you're right, the path in IMBrowser.ini is relative and goes up one level. I'll change it to `.\BrowserPlugins` and ship the folder inside the browser directory so it's self-contained.
    • 3. QuickTime very useful, I hadn't tested that. I'll add it to the readme: uninstall the version the game installs, install 7.7.9 from Apple.

Interesting that XP SP3 broke things for you, it's what fixed a graphical bug on my machine. Clearly it depends on the setup, so I'll present those as "things to try" rather than a recipe.

for the rest of the issues

Game window on 4K: nothing to be done, unfortunately. Director8 is hardcoded to 800x600 in every movie file, with absolute sprite coordinates, and all the artwork is bitmap made for that resolution. Rendering it larger would just interpolate the same images. Best option is running the desktop at 800x600 and letting the GPU scale, or an upscaler like Lossless Scaling (but neet a windowed mode which I couldn't get) .
I can also tell you it's worst for the Addon the 13rd victime cause they implemented a resolution switch from game elements to MOV files and it's break the game. my best shot was again Windows compatibility option on the High DPI. will talk about it soon.

Shockwave size on xineph: there may be an actual fix I haven't tried. The plugin scales the movie to whatever dimensions are declared in the object/embed tags of index.html. Doubling width and height there should double the display. It means editing an archived page, so I'd flag it as a modification, but it's worth testing, I'll try it tomorrow.

**On the unused files:** the .pac is optional, it's an alternative to editing the hosts file cause Like I said IMO it's not a good and secure solution, the idea was to redirecting the game's domains at browser level only, so the real sites stay reachable. The game itself doesn't read it, so hosts entries are still required either way. The doc directory is decompiled Lingo from the game's script casts, reference material for anyone digging into the bugs, not needed to play. I'll make both of those clear in the readme.
Tell me if you have any issues with the "BOS" puzzle as I still strugle to fix it for now (the slowing the game exe is the only one working 100% but it's a Pain in the A imo).

Please do keep reporting, this is genuinely helpful.

I've finished the playthrough, including the 13th victim! Here's what I found.

IN MEMORIAM - used the European version, played in English:

                1) www.c-maccioni.com requires PHP7 for login. My installation of UWAMP defaulted to 5.6.18 so I had to change it in the UWAMP control panel otherwise it produced an error when I tried to login. Maybe it would be possible to provide a config file.

                2) I had a few issues with the game itself:
                a) My solution to use Quicktime 7 to resolve the issue of skipped frames in videos doesn't work if the game is run in compatibility mode for XP. In this case, the game refuses to start with a message asking to install Quicktime.
                b) I experienced the bug that you mentioned with the BOS puzzle. I used BES to overcome this as you suggested.
                c) CHNOUPH sometimes produced an error popup, before exiting the game. I think this happened when two red ink (or is it blood?) drops moved together but didn't combine, and the resulting drop was moved onto the ink area.
                d) In OUPHISIT, the floating name text didn't display (or displayed very faintly).
                e) In SUBOS, the match displayed very faintly.
                f) I found ZOCHA incredibly difficult; often the physics would go crazy and make the cube move very fast, destroying it. I tried using BES but could not improve this. Maybe this is a skill issue. I would advise new players to at least play this puzzle in 800x600 as it gives the player a larger area to click on.

                3) Apparently the player is supposed to receive a sequence of emails after finishing the final game on http://www.xineph.com/fudulmar/Final_Game.php. I didn't get any mails. I've observed the following:
                a) I decompiled \www\www.xineph.com\fudulmar\Final_Game.dcr and it seems that after Gery's message is displayed on the browser, it calls GetNetText to http://212.94.174.244/delock.php, passing the user's email address.
                b) The missing mails are in the local database - however they were sent to the mail-temp.php endpoint rather than mail2.php.
My theory is that the following sequence of events were supposed to occur when the game was running properly, to ensure that the player didn't get the emails before finishing the final game sequence on xineph.com:
                1) Player finishes final puzzle in game client
                2) Game client sends all postgame mails to mail-temp endpoint.
                3) Player reaches end of game on xineph.com
                4) Final_Game.dcr sends GetNetText to http://212.94.174.244/delock.php (I assume this is a hardcoded address for the inMemoriamDev server.
                5) Server sends an email to client for each message received at the mail-temp endpoint (after specified delays).
                I can see two solutions:
                a) Modify the dcr to point to inmemoriamdev.com, add new field to DB to indicate that mail should be hidden. Implement Delock.php to set hidden to false on all records.
                b) Just implement Mail_temp.php to call Mail2.php This is not perfect as the postgame mails would be received when the user finished the last puzzle in the game client is solved (i.e. before finishing the final game on xineph.com).

13th VICTIM - Used the US/Canadian version (Missing: Since January) game of the year edition:

                1) I tried the US/Canadian version of The 13th Victim and it doesn't work - I got a "cannot connect to server" error when I attempted to create a new email account. This is because the 13th victim communicates with different endpoints than the original game; you need to create a directory \www\www.inmemoriamdev.com\add_on, and copy the endpoint php files into it, adding the suffix "_addon" e.g. "ajouter_addon.php" etc. So far I have copied ajouter_addon.php, verif_ok_addon.php and ping_addon.php and credentials.php. This has allowed me to get into the game. I assume the other endpoints will follow the same pattern. There is probably a neater way to solve this problem by setting up apache to forward the requests to the additional addons but I'm not familiar with apache and I haven't investigated how to do this.

                2) I received the email with the password when starting the game, then I received no further emails. Initially I thought this was an endpoint name issue, but checking the apache access logs it seems that the game does not even attempt to contact the inmemoriamdev server to send the emails. Could be a firewall issue I suppose.

                3) There are a number of missing websites/resources which provide vital clues for 13th Victim (I ended up playing through it with a youtube walkthrough. All of these sites are available on the internet archive:
www.tomalt.net - this is a mess, missing many images. One of the missing images provides a puzzle solution.
www.benatky-webzine.info - site completely missing from restoration
www.kunstklub-uni-marburg.info - site completely missing from restoration
www.radiozakaz-cz.net - missing archive pages that provides a clue

Overall, I'd say that In Memoriam provided a decent experience (I liked your solution of mixing retro websites with the local results), but 13th Victim is not really playable.
Again, many thanks for doing this restoration. This game has personally been on my list of "white whales" for a long time and I didn't think I'd be able to play it.

Finally, if you like this you should check out The Black Watchmen on steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3...lack_Watchmen/

To troubleshoot your connection problem, first check your redirection is working by pinging www.inmemoriamdev.com from the command line (type "ping www.inmemoriamdev.com"). If the redirection is OK, it should mention 127.0.0.1 in the output. If this is not the case, your hosts file has probably not been updated correctly.

If that's OK, check the apache server access log file at UwAmp\bin\apache\logs\access.log. Mine show the following line when I create a new account:
                  127.0.0.1 - - [31/Aug/2026:16:57:33 +0100] "POST /ajouter.php HTTP/1.0" 200 2 "http://www.inmemoriamdev.com/" "-"
If you don't see that then something is probably blocking the game connecting to the server - maybe check firewall?

If you see that line, then double check the server setup - check that UwAmp\www\www.inmemoriamdev.com\ajouter.php exists. If it exists, I'm out of ideas for now.

Rufus many thanks for the reviews and your feedbacks.thank you for going all the way through, and for decompiling Final_Game.dcr.
the delock mail temp fiding is the big one, those were the last two endpoint whose purpose nobody documented, you reconstruction is certainly right. the client dump all the post games emails into temp as soon as the last client side puzzle is solved. the server only release it when the Final_game.dcr send the delock. it's and ani skip lock not a delivery queue.

I think releasing the emails at the last client send point would destro the mechanism was implemented for. mail_temp will insert with a locked flag with no delvivery time delock will clear the lock and recompute each delai at that moment.
on the hardcoded iP is 14bytes so is a local hostname, I add it to the host file and bind the IP locally instead, and like this no one has to edit anything by hands.

PHP version: my fault I will change it soon.

On the puzzle bugs I think BOS, CHNOUPH and ZOCHA are imo one bug for the same reason. A frame limiter in the launcher should fix all three without the player installing anything. If you still have it, the exact CHNOUPH error text and the BES settings that worked for you would help me confirm.

OUPHISIT and SUBOS look like a different problem faint text and a faint match is broken alpha compositing, Not happen in my side but i will try the 16-bit colour and DDrawCompat. QuickTime 7 fix and XP compatibility mode are mutually exclusive; will edit the readme about this too.

On 13th Victim, yeah not playable on my last test. the video encoding is running wild too. there is a lot of breaking points at the moment.

by the way ,the _addon endpoints you don't need duplicated files. One rule in the vhost does it this is what I done to make it work on my side.

                    RewriteEngine On
                    RewriteRule ^/add_on/(.+)_addon\.php$ /$1.php [PT]

Watch the relative include of credentials.php, otherwise that's the whole fix.

The silent mails are more concerning. I don't trust it but If Apache logs show no request at all, it isn't a firewall the first mail got through, so the network path works. The add-on is maybe talking to somewhere else. another hardcoded host or IP in its equivalent of c_com.cxt that never made it into the hosts file. If you're willing to poke at that cast file the way you did with Final_Game.dcr, we will know for sure.

The four missing sites I'll pull from CDXn tomalt.net especially, since one of those images carries a puzzle solution.the radio channel had the archives with the archives normally I will recheck the repository.

If you'd be up for testing the next build once the mail lock and the frame limiter are in, I'd take you up on it. And thanks for the Black Watchmen pointer added to the wishlist.

Hi Sardineamook. I decompiled the addon's version c_com.ctx and it seems that the globals are set up correctly: gl.URL is assigned various endpoints with the /addon/ path and _addon suffix. I haven't searched the entire codebase so I can't be 100% sure that it isn't reassigned somewhere else. I played with a walkthrough so it's possible that I was solving the puzzles too quickly to get the "hint" emails (assuming that the client actually waits to send the message to mail2 rather than just using the delai field for scheduling - perhaps the devs wanted to wait until the user had spent e.g. 2 hours with the client running trying to solve a puzzle before sending a mail). Again, I don't think this is likely as I assume that there should be some "generic" emails at least at the beginning and end of the game. I wonder if this is a similar problem to the one that Dudujones has encountered? (although I get the POST to ajouter which they don't).

Unfortunately I didn't capture the error code I experienced in CHNOUPH. I don't remember exactly but I think I set the BES limiter to 50% to pass BOS. I did suspect CPU speed as the culprit for the weird physics in ZOCHA and I did try various BES settings but I don't think it had any effect. My CPU is a Ryzen 3600 for reference.

I'm happy to test the next build, but I will probably be slower than this first playthrough (particularly if I have difficulties with ZOCHA).

                          Salut Dudujones !
